AppHarbor

AppHarbor was a Platform as a Service (PaaS) hosting provider that facilitated the development and deployment of applications in the cloud. The service operated for nearly 12 years but announced its shutdown on December 5th, 2022. Users were encouraged to migrate their applications and data to alternative hosting solutions to avoid downtime or data loss.

During its operation, AppHarbor offered various features to enhance application development, including support for WebSocket connections and optimized CPU throttling mechanisms. However, since the shutdown announcement, customers are no longer able to utilize these features or services. The transition period varies in complexity based on the size and technical intricacy of hosted applications, and AppHarbor has recommended that users seek support during this migration process.

The platform had provided updates on its server infrastructure, including the introduction of Windows Server 2012 R2 and IIS 8.5, which supported advanced features like WebSockets for real-time web functionality. Unfortunately, the discontinuation of services means that users must now find alternative cloud service providers to host their applications.
